2 Getting Started

3 Install the Unit

This step typically benefits from having a second person to assist, especially when lifting the unit into position.
Lift the unit carefully and position it so that it sits centered in the window opening. Then, lower the window sash down onto the top of the AC unit. The weight of the window should rest on the unit itself. Make sure that the majority of the unit's weight extends to the outside of the window — once the sash is closed over it, the AC should be held firmly in place.
4 Install Brackets & Attach Panels
With the AC unit sitting securely in the window, the hard part is behind you. The remaining steps involve locking everything into place for long-term stability and safety.
To prevent the window from sliding upward and dislodging the unit, simply install the L-bracket that most models include. This small metal piece screws into the top of the window frame and acts as a latch to keep the sash from being pushed open from the outside. If your particular model did not include a bracket, it is highly recommended that you purchase one separately — it is a critical safety measure.
After the bracket is in place, add window padding around the AC unit. If your unit does not include window padding, extend the side panels as far as they will reach to fill the remaining open space on either side. Once the panels are extended, fasten them securely to the window frame and sill using screws.
If any additional securing measures were provided with your unit — such as foam strips, adhesive seals, or extra clips — install them now. Once everything is in place, you are ready to plug in your new window air conditioner, turn it on, and enjoy a cool, comfortable room.
